There are many definitions of Environmental sustainability. In simple terms, Environmental sustainability is about living in harmony with the nature and the mother earth. However, environmental sustainability has been severely impacted by increasingly complex societies in terms of so called modern societies. In the quest of advanced lifestyle and false and flickering happiness, humans have compromised the environmental sustainability in many ways starting from the misuse of resources to polluting the environment. This is because we have misunderstood the whole purpose of life. The purpose of life is to understand our existence which in turn is directly related to our consciousness. This presentation will focus on some critical aspects of environmental sustainability and highlight some connectivity between sustainability and simple life style.

Prof. Ras Vilas Das is a professor of environmental engineering . He researches at the interface of environmental process engineering and environmental microbiology. He has published more than 60 papers in journals of the status of ‘Nature Communications”, Environmental Science and Technology”, “water Research” and Scientific Reports. He the recipient of the prestigious presidential award for research in 2011 and recipient of numerous awards at the department, university and national levels.
